Let \(\phi: \mathbb{P}^1\to \mathbb {P}^3\) be a morphism birational onto its image with \(\phi(\mathbb{P}^1)\) not contained in a plane. Set \(d:= \deg (\phi (\mathbb {P}^1))\). The vector bundle \(\phi^\ast (T\mathbb{P}^3)\) (called the restricted tangent bundle) is the direct sum of \(3\) lines bundles of degree \(a\ge b\ge c>d\) with \(a+b+c = 4d\). The game if to compute the splitting type \((a,b,c)\) in term of \(\phi\). The most interesting result of this paper is Theorem 0.2 which consider the possible ``generic'' splitting types if \(\phi (\mathbb {P}^1)\) has mild singularties. If \(\phi \) is general, then the restricted tangent bundle is balanced, i.e. \(c\ge a-1\), but this was known [\textit{L. Ramella}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 311, No. 3, 181--184 (1990; Zbl 0721.14014); Mém. Soc. Math. Fr., Nouv. Sér. 54, 74 p. (1993; Zbl 0813.14020)]. Two of the references in the latter paper (ref. [fG-aI-gS] and [lR3] never appeared, as far as I know, and so many old results may be lost.
