For a closed surface of genus at least one, the \textit{curve graph} has vertex set given by the isotopy classes of essential simple closed curves with edges between pairs of isotopy classes than can be realized disjointly (with a small modification in genus one). \textit{H. A. Masur} and \textit{Y. N. Minsky} [Geom. Funct. Anal. 10, No. 4, 902--974 (2000; Zbl 0972.32011)] showed that this graph is Gromov hyperbolic, which is of importance in studying the mapping class group of the surface. \textit{J. Bowden} et al. [J. Am. Math. Soc. 35, No. 1, 211--231 (2022; Zbl 07420183)] introduced the \textit{fine curve graph} to study the group of homeomorphisms of the surface, and showed it to have infinite diameter. This allows techniques from geometry to be used to study the homeomorphism group of the surface through its action on the fine curve graph. Here the correspondence between the dynamics of the induced action of a surface homeomorphism on the fine curve graph and the dynamics of the homeomorphism acting on the surface itself is studied. In the torus case the rotation sets for the homeomorphism is explored in detail.
