The authors consider Schrödinger operators \(H:=-\Delta + b\) in \(\mathbb{R}^d\), where the potential \(b\) is real, smooth, and either periodic, or generic quasiperiodic (i.e. a finite linear combintion fexponentials), or almost periodic together with all its derivatives. For the spectral function, i.e. the integral kernel \(e_\lambda\) of the spectral projection \(E_\lambda(H):= E((-\infty,\lambda];H)\), they first prove a complete spectral expansion \[ e_\lambda(x,x) \sim \lambda^{d/2} \Bigl(C_d + \sum_{j=1}^\infty a_j(x) \lambda^{-j}\Bigr) \] on the diagonal (i.e. for the local density of states) and then prove complete asymptotic expansion for the off-diagonal terms \(e_\lambda(x,y)\) as long as the direction \(\frac{x-y}{|x-y|}\) is so-called non-degenerate (which is generically the case).
