    The following problem for a second-order integro-differential equation is discussed: \[ \frac{d^2u(t)}{dt^2}+(A+B)u(t) - \int\limits_{l}^{t}K_1(t-s)Au(s)ds- \int\limits_{l}^{t}K_2(t-s)Bu(s)ds = f(t), \] \[ u(+0)=\varphi_0, \; u^{(1)}(+0)=\varphi_1, \; u(t)=\varphi(t),\; t\in[l,0], \; -\infty\leq l \leq 0, \] where \(t\in\mathbb{R}_{+}\), \(\varphi(0)=\varphi_0,\; \varphi^{(1)}(0)=\varphi_1\), \(K_i(t)=\int\limits_{0}^{\infty}e^{-t\tau}d\mu_i(\tau)\), \(i=1,2\) (this integral is understood in the Stieltjes sense), \(d\mu_i\) is the positive measure generated by a nondecreasing right-continuous function \(\mu_i\). The well-posed solvability of this problem in a Hilbert space is studied. The approach used in the paper is related to the application of the theory of operator semigroups.
