It is well-known that for a \(n\)-dimensional thin domain, the \(n\)-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations can be essentially reduced to the \((n-1)\)-dimensional case (at least in the strong solution case). In this paper the authors want to show the same conclusion for the \textit{compressible} Navier-Stokes equations. Since the 1D compressible Navier-Stokes equations possess a global strong large solution, it is expected that there should be a unique global strong solution to the 2D compressible Navier-Stokes equation for large initial data in a thin domain. Indeed in this paper, the authors prove the global existence of strong solutions to the 2D compressible isothermal Navier-Stokes equations with relatively large initial data and the initial density bounded away from zero on periodic thin domains \({\mathbb T} \times\delta {\mathbb T}\) (\(\delta >0\)), when the thickness \(\delta\) is sufficiently small. This paper generalizes the results for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations to the compressible case.
