Let \(\pi\) be a cuspidal automorphic representations of GL\(_m\) over \(\mathbb{Q}\) with unitary central character (\(m\ge 2\) fixed). Then the standard \(L\)-function \(L(s,\pi)\) associated to \(\pi\) is defined by \[ (1.1)\;\; L(s,\pi)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{\lambda_\pi(n)}{n^s}, \quad \mathrm{ Re}s>1.\] We note that the last equation on p. 525 is to be consistent with (1.1). Once an \(L\)-function is introduced, it is classically known how to develop PNT type setting. Let \(\Lambda_\pi(n)\) denote the von Mangoldt function generated by the logarithmic derivative of (1.1). The main result is the following: \par Theorem 1.2. For every fixed \(\frac{1}{2}<\theta<1\) and for all \(\alpha\) of irrational type \(1\) (Definition 1.1), suppose that \[(1.5)\;\; S_\pi(x,\alpha):=\sum_{n\le x}\lambda_\pi(n)e(n\alpha)\ll x^\theta, \quad e(z)=e^{2\pi iz}.\] Then \[\sum_{n\le x}\Lambda_\pi(n)e(n\alpha)\ll_{\pi,\varepsilon} x^{\Theta+\varepsilon}, \quad \Theta=\frac{4-3\theta}{5-4\theta},\] for every \(\varepsilon>0\). Corollary 1.4 gives a similar estimate for the sum \(\sum_{n\le x}\Lambda(n)\Lambda_\pi(n)e(n\alpha)\) under (1.5), where \(\Lambda(n)\) is the classical von Mangoldt function. Condition (1.5) is satisfied in a few known cases. The author gives a metrical result on \(S_\pi(x,\alpha)\) in Theorem 1.5.
