Montgomery and Samelson suggested that a smooth action of a compact Lie group on a sphere with one fixed point will have at least one more fixed point. Floyd-Richardson constructed an action of \(\mathrm{SL}(2,5)\) on the Poincaré homology sphere with exactly one fixed point and Stein on \(S^7\). Petrie and others constructed one fixed point actions on homotopy spheres for more groups. There are no such actions on spheres in dimension \(\le 5\). Having an effective one fixed point action on a homotopy sphere implies that the group acts on a disk without fixed point (it is an Oliver group) and the tangent represesentation at the fixed point is faithful. Only few group are possible if the dimension of the group is small. Morimoto constructed an \(A_5\) action on \(S^6\) (as well as in each dimension \(\ge 6\)). The author shows that the non-semidirect product \(\mathrm{SL}(2,5).C_2\) cannot act on a homology sphere in dimension \(<14\) with an odd number of fixed points.
