The author presents a general analysis of isolated horizons, introduced by Ashtekar et al., using the null tetrad formalism. The analogue of the zeroth law of thermodynamics is obtained from the non-expanding condition on the horizon introduced by the author. Using invariant vector fields and 1-forms, the symmetries of isolated horizons are analysed and it is shown that if at least one spatial isometry exists, then a unique foliation can be fixed. Conserved quantities corresponding to conserved quantites of the Kerr-Newman family of solutions are defined.
