This essay concerns the mathematics of the problem of evolution. The author has shown that the extrapolation from evolution in the small to evolution in the large, following the Darwinian theory, is a mistake. The goal of this work is to fill this gap, using mathematics in order to explain some phenomena of evolution. The author has used elementary notions and results from differential and integral equations theory.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe subjects discussed are: the natural selection and the multigene problem; the cell division and crossover; the solution of the single-gene problem by a partial differential equation; the sociological consequences of deleterious mutation pressure; how far does the neo-Darwinian theory work?; the genetic cost of evolution; the protein phylogenies; a bisexual model with crossover.
