Monte Carlo methods on genetic structures (English)

This article is a very interesting review of Monte Carlo methods used in genetics. It starts with a short introduction to genetics and considers then how to analyse genetic data. The main problem in this analysis is given by data complexity: even with the increasing speeds of current computers, exact computation of probablities and likelihood is often infeasible. Monte Carlo methods in general, and Markov chain Monte Carlo in particular, provide a solution in some cases, permitting accurate estimate of probabilities of data. Earlier methods had limited success, but more recent development show promising results.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0948.00013].
