Answering questions raised by \textit{A. Bellow}, \textit{R. Jones} and \textit{J. Rosenblatt} [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 14, No. 3, 415-432 (1994); Zbl 0818.28005)], it is shown that the convolution powers of a measure have the strong sweeping out property if and only if the measure has unbounded angular ratio, and have the property of stability if and only if the measure has bounded angular ratio.
