The use of satellite remote sensing data in numerical modeling of the North Pacific circulation (English)

The aim of the article is to numerically study the North Pacific ocean circulation processes. For reconstructing the 3D velocity fields, temperature, and salinity, the authors use the finite-element ocean circulation model. The model grid covers the region between \(30^\circ\) S and \(60^\circ\) N with space resolution \(2^{\circ}\) in longitude and \(1^{\circ}\) in latitude with 18 levels in depth. The model includes the block of vertical mixture in the upper layer of an ocean circulation.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEFor testing satellite data and comparing the results obtained with the climatological data and satellite data, the authors demonstrate the short-range prognostic experiments (April and October, 1994) for both climatic and satellite data for a 3-year period with a seasonal cycle. The results of numerical experiments show that certain complicated ocean structures are simulated more exactly with the use of satellite data.
