Numerical simulation of magnetoplasma configurations of belt-type Galathea (English)
0 references
The authors continue the study of belt-type Galathea plasma configurations (see [\textit{G.~I.~Dudnikova}, \textit{A.~I. Morozov} and \textit{N.~P.~Morozov}, Plasma Phys. Rep. 23, No. 5, 387-396 (1997)], wherein some results of numerical study of processes of forming belt-shaped Galathea configurations were presented). In accordance with the original concept, this configuration is a toroidal quadrupole formed by two myxines with an azimuthal current between them. The concept of belt configuration is based primarily on current (neutral) sheets. These sheets are formed near the zero line of magnetic field, the zero line is parallel to \(z\)-axis. To describe the plasma dynamics, the approximation of single-fluid hydrodynamics (not involving radiation) is used, and it is assumed that the myxines are impenetrable, and the plasma conductivity is constant.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn the article under review, the main objective is to provide a rigorous numerical study of plasma dynamics at an initial stage. The development of current sheets is investigated in detail. Moreover, the authors show that the sheets are instable and exist with relatively short life time. The results obtained agree qualitatively with laboratory experiments.
