This is the first volume of a tripartite work on ``Regelungstechnik I--III'' which is already the 10th, 8th, 6th, resp., edition of a well-known textbook in German on control theory. The material for an advanced course in control theory for engineers is presented in a systematic way, where many examples, several illustrations and exercises are contained in the three volumes suitable also for a selfstudy.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe first introductory volume, hence the 10th edition of ``Regelungstechnik I'', presents first some problems of regulation of mechanical, electrical and thermodynamical dynamical systems. Then, the basic mathematical models, tools, methods and results in the analysis and synthesis of linear control systems in continuous time are described. The main topics of this first volume are: Linear time invariant systems, continuous time systems, Laplace transformations, the transfer function, the representation of control problems in the frequency domain, special types of controllers: P-, I-, D-terms, Bode-plots, stability of linear continuous time control systems, Nyquist criterion, root loci, synthesis of linear continuous time systems, identification of control systems with deterministic signals. Finally, the foundations of fuzzy control are given: Fuzzy logic, fuzzification and defuzzification, basic structure of a fuzzy controller, examples of fuzzy controllers. The book contains many references for further reading and a detailed index. More exercises are contained in a supplementary volume on ``Regelungstechnik Aufgaben I'' by the same author.
