This is a long (94 pages) review paper mainly on the quantum effects in different theories, where the gravity sector is described by the metric tensor and scalar partner (dilaton). The review results and methods in chiefly quantum dilatonic gravity in varions dimensions are presented with profusely furnished references (250).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn altogether seven sections after an introduction the following subject matters are discussed in detail:NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEOne-loop effective action in dilatonic gravity, conformal anomaly and induced effective action for dilaton coupled theories, thermodynamics of quantum dilatonic black holes, quantum cosmology, dilatonic gravity and anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory correspondence. The final section provides the discussion with some open questions listed. Indeed, the present review will serve a very useful purpose for the research workers in modern physics.
