Cauchy problem and reduction of a system of partial differential equations (English)

In the classical theory of systems of partial differential equations in the complex domain, of which Cauchy is the chief originator, a number of related questions are posed: Does there exist an analytic solution in the neighbourhood of the Cauchy data? How far does the data determine the solution? What are the simple (canonical) forms to which classes of problem can be reduced? The present paper addresses these issues without, however, offering any unexpected or radically new insights into a well-understood class of problem. The authors show, with an example, how to reduce a partial differential system with algebraic constraints to a simple set without such constraints and they develop the solutions as formal power series in the relevant variables.
