Let \(p\) be a prime. In [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 361, No. 12, 6521--6547 (2009; Zbl 1203.20005)], \textit{I. M. Isaacs} et al. studied finite groups with exactly one irreducible complex character degree divisible by \(p\), and showed that their Sylow \(p\)-subgroups are ``almost normal'' and ``almost abelian''. In the paper under review, the author considers the corresponding situation for \(p\)-Brauer characters for \(p\geq 5\). In particular, he shows that if a finite group \(G\) has exactly one irreducible \(p\)-Brauer character degree \(n\) divisible by \(p\), then either \(G / \mathbf{O}_p(G)\) has a non-normal T.I. Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of order \(n_p\) (= the \(p\)-part of \(n\)), or \(G\) has a nonabelian chief factor of order divisible by \(p\) that is unique and is a simple group of Lie type of characteristic \(p\). The paper actually contains more detailed information that one also has some results on the primes 2 and 3. The proof depends on CFSG.
