\textit{W. R. Hare} and \textit{J. W. Kenelly} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 19, 1299-1302 (1968; Zbl 0174.25301)] described the intersection \(P(S)\) of all (with respect to inclusion) maximal starshaped subsets of a set and proved that for a given compact, simply connected set in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) the set \(P(S)\) is either starshaped or empty. In the present paper, the intersection of maximal starshaped via staircase paths rectilinear polygons of a simply connected rectilinear polygon is described (i.e., the investigations are based on simple polygonal paths whose edges are parallel to the coordinate axes of \(R^2\)). Among other results the author derives a staircase version of the Hare-Kenelly theorem.
