The authors consider the Gegenbauer differential equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE-\bigl[ (1-x^2)^{\nu+1/2} y'\bigr]'+ \nu^2(1-x^2)^{\nu-1/2}y =\lambda(1-x^2)^{\nu-1/2} y,NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(x\in(-1,1)\) and \(\nu> -1/2\) while \(\lambda\) stands for a complex-valued parameter, and derive the spectral resolutions of the self-adjoint operator associated with it in the Hilbert space equipped with the inner product NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\langle y,z\rangle= \int^1_{-1} \bigl[(1-x^2)^{\nu+1/2}y' \overline z'+(1-x^2)^{\nu-1/2} y\overline z\bigr] dx.NEWLINE\]NEWLINE The results are stated in the form of six theorems and one corollary. The proofs are based on already established six theorems as well as eight forms of Green's function and ten definitions.
