A Riemannian manifold is called \(p\)-parabolic if it does not admit a Green's function for the \(p\)-Laplace equation. The \(p\)-parabolicity of a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold \(M\) is characterized in terms of the volume growth of \(M\) under very weak assumptions on \(M\). Some applications to the setting of metric measure spaces are obtained and some examples are also given.
