A commutative normed unitary algebra \(A\) is a \(Q\)-algebra if and only if its ideals are closed. Examples are given to show, respectively, thatNEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE(i) every character of \(A\) is continuous but \(A\) is not a \(Q\)-algebra,NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE(ii) an \(m-\)convex metrizable algebra in which all maximal ideals are closed need not be a \(Q\)-algebra.
