The author proves that for a certain class of knots, which includes, for example, all knots \(K\) which are a union of two nonsplitting tangles, the cabling conjecture is true. This conjecture states that, if the manifold obtained by Dehn surgery on a knot \(K\) in the 3-sphere is reducible, then \(K\) is a cable knot.
