The effect of numerical integration in finite element methods for nonlinear parabolic integrodifferential equations (English)
0 references
The author investigates the effect of numerical integration in the semi-discrete finite element approximation for a nonlinear parabolic integrodifferential equation describing gas or heat diffusion process. Exploiting the properties of the finite element interpolation spaces and using discrete energy estimates, the author gives some sufficient conditions to ensure that the order of convergence is unaltered in the presence of numerical integration. Moreover, the optimal \(L^2\)-error estimates are obtained for the approximate solutions.
