The obituary tries more than to present biography, it intends to give an idea of the effects triggered by the work of a genius. Shannon is a paradigm, a model case, in his width, in his clarity and in the precision in his study of what he could find with his predecessors. His genius is unique. But width, clarity and precision should be the goal of every information engineer.
