On a shape preserving interpolation by local \(VP\)-splines (English)
0 references
The problem of constructing a local smooth variable-power spline (\(VP\)-spline) preserving the monotonicity of data is discussed. A \(VP\)-spline is a partial case of a generalized cubic spline, NEWLINE\[NEWLINE S(x)=(1-t)f_i+tf_{i+1}+h_i\{C_i(\varphi_i(t)-t)+D_i(\psi_i(t)-1+t)\}, \quad x\in[x_i,x_{i+1}], NEWLINE\]NEWLINE with \(\varphi_i(t)=t^{p_i}\), \(\psi_i(t)=(1-t)^{q_i}\), where \(t=(x-x_i)/h_i\), \(h_i=x_{i+1}-x_i\). The coefficients \(C_i\) and \(D_i\) are expressed in terms of \(f_i'\), \(f_{i+1}'\), and \(f[x_i,x_{i+1}]\). The classical cubic spline is realized for \(p_i=q_i=0\). The regions in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) of pairs (\(f_i'/f[x_i,x_{i+1}]\), \(f_{i+1}'/f[x_i,x_{i+1}]\)) ensuring monotonicity of the \(VP\)-spline are described for various values of the parameters \(p_i\), \(q_i\).
