Pseudo-orthogonal polynomials (Q2746933)

A system of orthogonal polynomials on a discrete set is considered. The case is discussed in which some entries of the Jacobi matrix, which defines the polynomials, are negative. The author points out the situation in which the roots of the polynomials stay real and announces that a weak form of the root separation property is valid for such polynomials. Some orthogonality weights are negative and the author calls this system of polynomials pseudo-orthogonal on the discrete set of \(n\) points. The relation between the matrices of two orthogonal polynomial systems is analyzed.
