Eudoxus: Parapegmata and proportionality (English)

Admitting the extreme scantiness of the documents that connect Eudoxus with the definition of proportionality in Book V of the \textit{Elements}, this article tries to find similar techniques in other achievements attributed to Eudoxus. The author shows that the comparison of two different intervals -- sunset (daily) and first appearance of new moon (monthly) -- necessary in the calendaric computation known by the name `The Art of Eudoxus' through a papyrus, can be executed by a technique similar to the definition of proportionality in Book V of the \textit{Elements}.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0964.00010].
