The paper is based on a lecture delivered on 2 December 1977 at a meeting held in the University of Sydney to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Hardy's death. The author discusses Hardy's interest in mathematical logic at the beginning of XX century, when Whitehead and Russell prepared their famous treatise. They three lectured then at Trinity College. Hardy was also interested in the history of mathematics, but rather occasionally.
