The search for the laws of thought. On the epistemology of Boole's logical calculus and calculus of probabilities (English)

The author reviews some aspects of Boole's logic. He reruns some of Boole's deductions, which draw upon mysterious expansion theorems, mainly by using the symmetric difference between classes. He also rehearses the main assumptions which guided Boole's formulation of probability logic. The citation of secondary literature is somewhat limited; and no use has been made of the 1997 edition of Boole's manuscripts on logic, which do afford further information.
