The authors provide an interesting and general method for passing from noninvertible to invertible nonuniformly hyperbolic systems (in the sense of \textit{L.-S. Young} [Ann. Math. (2) 147, No. 3, 585--650 (1998; Zbl 0945.37009); Isr. J. Math. 110, 153--188 (1999; Zbl 0983.37005)]) with slowly contracting and expanding directions. As consequences of the main result of the paper (Theorem 2.1), the authors deduce some classical statistical theorems: the central limit theorem (Corollary 2.1), the weak invariance principle (Corollary 2.2), and an iterated version of the weak invariance principle (Corollary 2.3). Some illustrative examples are presented in Section 4.
