Coherent hydrodynamic structures and vortex dynamics (English)
0 references
The notion of coherent hydrodynamic or aerodynamic structures is one of the important tools for the investigation of turbulent or chaotic flows, vortex dynamics, etc. Here, some possible approaches for modeling two-dimensional coherent hydrodynamic structures are considered on the basis of the statistical mechanics of local vortices. The foundations of Onsager's kinetic theory of vortices are formulated and the possibility to apply the ``classic'' molecular-kinetic theory for explaining vortex meso-structures in shear structures is discussed.
