The authors develop new geometric techniques to deal with the Dirichlet problem for \(p\)-harmonic maps from compact manifolds with boundary to Cartan-Hadamard target manifolds which are either 2-dimensional or rotationally symmetric. The proposed geometric construction might be useful in more general settings where the analytic problem is related to different functionals, since the relevant properties of the \(p\)-energy required by the method are: (a) the solvability of the problem when the target is compact and (b) provides a maximum principle for regular enough solutions.NEWLINENEWLINEFor Part I see [the authors, Geom.
