The authors study two microstructure formations from material science modeled by non-convex singularly perturbed problems. In the case of martensitic microstructures they have the energy NEWLINE\[NEWLINEJ(u):= \mu \int_0^\infty \int_0^1|\nabla u(x)|^2\,dx+\int_L^0 \int_0^1(\partial_1 u(x))^2\,dx +\varepsilon\int_L^0 \int_0^1|\partial_2\partial_2 u(x)|\,dx.NEWLINE\]NEWLINE The second functional studied by the authors is a model for microstructures in crystal plasticity of the form NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\begin{aligned} E(u,\beta):=&\int_\Omega|Du(x)-\beta(x)|^2\,dx+\varepsilon\int_\Omega(|\partial_\xi\beta_\eta|+ |\partial_3\beta_\eta|+|\partial_\eta\beta_\xi|+|\partial_3\beta_\xi|)\,dx\\&+\mu\int_{\mathbb{R}^3\setminus\Omega}|D(u-u_0(x)|^2\,dx. \end{aligned}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE Theorems about scaling laws for \(J\) and \(E\) are proved.
