Hyperbolic geometry in the work of J. H. Lambert (English)

The paper is devoted to Johann Heinrich Lambert's memoir \textit{Theorie der Parallellinien} (1766). Lambert's aim was to prove that the geometry with all Euclidean axioms but with the negation of the parallel axiom is inconsistent, hence does not exist. Considering this geometry, he obtained several fundamental results of hyperbolic geometry. This was sixty years before the first writings of Lobachevsky and Bolyai were published. In the paper under review, Lambert's work is presented and discussed.
