Multipoint Padé approximants are introduced starting from an infinite triangular table \(\beta:=\{\{\beta_{n,k}\}_{k=1}^n\}_{n=1,2,\ldots}\), \(\beta_{n,k}\in E\), for \(E\) a compact set in the complex plane, with no limit points outside \(E\). Set NEWLINENEWLINE\[NEWLINE\omega_n(z)=\prod_{k=1}^n (z-\beta_{n,k}).NEWLINE\]NEWLINE NEWLINELet \(f\in{\mathcal A}(E)\) (i.e., holomorphic on some open neighborhood of \(E\)) and \((n,m)\) a fixed pair of nonnegative integers. The rational function \(\pi_{n,m}^{\beta,f}:=p/q\), where \(p\) is a polynomial of degree \(n\) and \(q\) is a polynomial of degree \(m\), satisfying NEWLINENEWLINE\[NEWLINE{fq-p\over \omega_{n+m+1}}\in {\mathcal A}(E)NEWLINE\]NEWLINE NEWLINEis called the \(\beta\)-\textit{multipoint Padé approximant of order \((n,m)\) of \(f\)}. It always exists and is unique.NEWLINENEWLINEThe main result is concerned with conditions to ensure the existence of an exact harmonic majorant of a certain family connected with \(f\).NEWLINENEWLINEIt is not convenient to give here all the necessary definitons, as this would lengthen the review to nearly the size of the paper (6 pages).
