Rank \(r\) spanned vector bundles with extremal Chern classes on a smooth surface (English)

The author studies spanned vector bundles on smooth surfaces \(X\), focusing on the large rank cases that come from particular extensions of the rank 2 case.NEWLINENEWLINEFor a connected and smooth projective surface, a line bundle \(\mathcal{R}\) on \(X\) is called \textit{weakly \(k\)-spanned}, with \(k\geq 0\) an integer, if \(h^0(\mathcal{I}_S \otimes \mathcal{R}) = h^0(\mathcal{R})-k-1\) for all finite sets \(S\subset X\) with \(\#(S)=k+1\), where \(\mathcal{I}_S\) denotes the associated ideal sheaf. Denote by \(\alpha(\mathcal{R})\) the maximal integer \(k\) such that \(\mathcal{R}\) is weakly \(k\)-spanned. The main result is the following.NEWLINENEWLINELet \(\mathcal{L}\) be an ample and spanned line bundle on \(X\) such that \(\alpha(\mathcal{L}\otimes \omega_X)\geq0\) and let \(\mathcal{E}\) be a tank \(r\) spanned vector bundle on \(X\) with no trivial factor and with \(\det (\mathcal{E}) =\mathcal{L}\). If \(c_2(\mathcal{E}) \geq \mathcal{L}^2-\alpha(\mathcal{L}\otimes \omega_X)-1\), then \(h^0(\mathcal{E})=r+1, \:\:c_2(\mathcal{E}) = \mathcal{L}^2\) and \(\mathcal{E}\) fits in an exact sequence NEWLINE\[NEWLINE 0\longrightarrow \mathcal{L}^\lor \longrightarrow \mathcal{O}_X^{r+1} \longrightarrow \mathcal{E} \longrightarrow 0. NEWLINE\]NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe author then focuses on the special case \(X=\mathbb{P}^2\) and, denoting by \(t(\mathcal{E})\) the largest integer such that \(\mathcal{E}(-t)\) has global sections, he proves a relation between the Chern classes and the value \(t\) for the rank 2 case and studies the possible extensions to get large rank cases, relating as before the rank of the extensions with \(t\) and the Chern classes of the bundle.
