The authors are concerned with the second-order nonlinear differential equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE uu''+\frac{1}{2}u^{'2}+F'(u)=0, NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(F\) is analytic. This equation arises in hydrodynamics. According to the qualitative properties of the nonlinearity \(F\), they present some characterizations of weak and singular solutions. Then an application to the Camassa-Holm equation is provided.
