The authors revisit two old papers by \textit{A. G. Basuev} [``A theorem on minimal specific energy for classical systems'', Teoret. Mat. Fiz. 37, No. 1, 130--134 (1978); ``Representation for the Ursell functions, and cluster estimates'', ibid. 39, No. 1, 94--105 (1979)], and establish that the results contained there yield strong improvements on all known results for a wide class of potentials. Namely, they are related to lower bounds of the convergence radius of the Mayer series for continuous particle systems interacting via a very large class of stable and tempered potentials. Basically, the authors are focused on the physically important subclass of the Lennard-Jones-type potentials. Moreover, several new results are also obtained for a specific case of the classical Lennard-Jones potential \(V(r)=1/r^{12}-2/r^{6}\) which strongly improve the results of \textit{B. N. B. De Lima} and \textit{A. Procacci} [J. Stat. Phys. 157, No. 3, 422--435 (2014; Zbl 1301.82035)]. To get these improvements, the authors use results of \textit{S. A. Yuhjtman} [J. Stat. Phys. 160, No. 6, 1684--1695 (2015; Zbl 1327.82023)] on the stability constant and minimal inter-particle distance in lowest energy configurations of the considered model.
