Let \(f: \mathbb C^n \rightarrow \mathbb C^3\), \(n\geqslant 3\), be a finitely determined map germ and let \(\Sigma(f)\) be its critical locus. Let denote by \(\Delta(f)\) the discriminant, the image of the critical locus, and by \(X(f)\) the inverse image of the discriminant. It should be noted that, in general, both sets \(\Delta(f)\) and \(X(f)\) have nonisolated singularities at the origin. In their previous paper [in: Real and complex singularities, São Carlos workshop 2004. Papers of the 8th workshop, Marseille, France, July 19--23, 2004. Basel: Birkhäuser. 263--287 (2007; Zbl 1122.58024)] the geometry of the singularities of such maps of corank one was investigated. In the paper under review the authors show that the corank one condition is, in fact, needless. As a result, modifying their earlier arguments they have proved that the Whitney equisingularity of \(X(f)\) implies the Whitney equisingularity of the strata in \(\Sigma(f)\), the Lê numbers of \(\Delta(f)\) control the Whitney equisingularity of the discriminant set, etc. In addition, they presented a series of examples where all strata of the above mentioned sets are described in an explicit way with the aid of a computer system.
