Given a Riemann surface \(S\), denote by \(\text{Mod}(S)\) the Teichmüller modular group. \textit{S. P. Kerckhoff} [Ann. Math. (2) 117, 235--265 (1983; Zbl 0528.57008)] proved that if \(S\) is an analytically finite Riemann surface, then a subgroup of \(\text{Mod}(S)\) is finite if and only if it has a common fixed point in Teichmüller space \(T(S)\). This provides a positive answer to the Nielsen realization problem in the analytically finite case. A generalization of this to infinite type surfaces follows from results of \textit{V. Markovic} [J. Am. Math. Soc., 19, No. 3, 673--715 (2006; Zbl 1096.20042)].NEWLINENEWLINEIn the paper under review, the authors prove a generalization of these results to the setting of asymptotic Teichmüller space \(AT(S)\). Namely, under a certain geometric assumption on the infinite type surface \(S\), every finite subgroup of the asymptotic Teichmüller modular group has a common fixed point in \(AT(S)\). Consequently, every finite subgroup of the asymptotic Teichmüller modular group is realized as a group of quasiconformal automorphisms modulo coincidence near infinity. Further, every finite subgroup of a certain geometric automorphism group of \(AT(S)\) is realized as an automorphism group of the Royden boundary of the surface \(S\).
