A special approach to boundary value problems for the hyperbolic equation degenerating in a domain was developed in the paper by \textit{S. K. Kumykova} and \textit{F. B. Nakhusheva} [Differ. Uravn. 14, 50--65 (1978; Zbl 0372.35058)]. Here, the approach is generalized and theorems on unique solvability of the problem under consideration are proved, taking into account some limitations on the functions given in the boundary condition.
