Interest in holomorphic mappings between complex Banach or Fréchet spaces \(E\) and \(F\) has attracted the interest of mathematicians for over 80 years. (A function \(f: \Omega \to F\) is said to be holomorphic if it is Fréchet differentiable at each point of the open set \(\Omega \subset E.\)) \textit{N. Dunford} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 44, 305--356 (1938; Zbl 0019.41604)] was perhaps the first to observe that much less is required for holomorphy. Thus, one is led to the idea of weakly holomorphic mappings \(f\), which have the property that \(\varphi \circ f:\Omega \to \mathbb C\) is holomorphic for each \(\varphi \in E^\ast\). This topic was beautifully explored in the seminal work of \textit{E. Hille} and \textit{R. S. Phillips} [Functional analysis and semigroups. Rev. ed. Colloquium Publications. 31. Providence, R. I. American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1957; Zbl 0078.10004)]. Since then, many mathematicians have continued this exploration, discovering and rediscovering new equivalent forms of holomorphy. One such work is by \textit{K. D. Bierstedt} and \textit{S. Holtmanns} [Bull. Soc. R. Sci. Liège 72, No. 6, 377--381 (2003; Zbl 1077.46030)] in which the authors mention that their paper ``is related to results of Grosse-Erdmann and of Arendt and Nikolski'' (on weak holomorphy). The Bierstedt-Holtmanns work also touches on analogous results for harmonic functions.NEWLINENEWLINEThis obviously popular topic is studied further in this nice paper, which uses an \(\ell_\infty\) technique and also mentions connections with partial differential equations.
