The self-dual induction introduced by the author and \textit{L. Q. Zamboni} [J. Anal. Math. 112, 289--328 (2010; Zbl 1225.37003)] is here used to develop an approach to coding the trajectories of billiards in regular \(2n\)-gons motivated in part by the powerful work of \textit{J. Smillie} and \textit{C. Ulcigrai} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 102, No. 2, 291--340 (2011; Zbl 1230.37021)]. Several important results are obtained, including the following. Among the underlying one-parameter family of interval exchanges on \(n\) intervals, it is shown that for \(n=3\) non-periodicity is sufficient to guarantee weak-mixing, and in certain cases minimal self-joinings. For every value of \(n\) explicit constructions of weak-mixing interval exchanges are found.
