The book describes a two-step perturbation method proposed by the author in a joint work with J. W. Zhang in 1988. The approach gives explicit analytical expressions of all variables in the nonlinear problem that was studied. In the present book, the author examines the post-buckling states of rods, plates and shells. The basis of a two-step perturbation method may be described as follows. In the first step, a small parameter is chosen that may not have any physical meaning. In the second step, a second perturbation parameter is chosen and it represents the amplitude of the first term in the perturbation expansion. The book gives numerous applications of the procedure to important mechanical systems. It could be useful to experts working in the field of elastic stability and post-critical behavior of elastic systems as well as to graduate students in engineering.
