This article discusses the reception of Gödel's incompletability theorem among mathematicians. Its reception by logicians was already discussed by \textit{J. W. Dawson jun.} [``The reception of Gödel's incompleteness theorems'', in: S. G. Shanker (ed.), Gödel's theorem in focus. Reprint of the 1988 orig. London: Routledge. 74--95 (1991; Zbl 0763.03002)]. After briefly sketching the significance of Gödel's result and presenting the reactions of Hahn, Quine, MacLane and Russell, the author points out the key role of James Roy Newman in the dissemination of Gödel's work among mathematicians.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1253.00009].
