The article introduces František Vyčichlo, one of the most important Czech geometers in the twentieth century. It starts with his studies and research and teaching career (first at secondary schools, from 1945 at the Czech Technical University). Vyčichlo succumbed to lung emphysema at relatively young age, having exhausted himself with administrative and teaching work. Despite this incessant activity, he also managed to publish two dozen research papers and books in synthetic and descriptive geometry, building upon the classical school of Czech synthetic geometry (J. Sobotka), as well as in algebraic and differential geometry. In later years he also contributed to the mathematical theory of flexibility with I. Babuška and K. Rektorys. His active membership in the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, which enabled him to travel internationally even in the 1950's, is also mentioned.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1330.01007].
