The authors briefly describe the biography of Pierre Deligne and then concentrate on his main mathematical results, in particular, his proof of the Ramanujan conjecture and the Weil conjecture. To this end, they introduce the concept of the Riemann \(\zeta \)-function in the complex plane as well as its discrete analogue over finite fields. They also mention Deligne's contribution to solving a generalization of the 21st Hilbert problem on the existence of differential equations with singular points.
