The authors, assuming the non-reversible direction axiom, demonstrate that the second law of thermodynamics represents a restriction for constitutive equations [\textit{W. Muschik} and \textit{H. Ehrentraut}, J. Non-Equilibrium Thermodyn. 21, No. 2, 175--192 (1996; Zbl 0877.73004)]. More exactly, the authors prove the validity of this result in a general situation when the generalized exploitation procedures are applied. The gradients of basic laws are considered as constraints for the entropy inequality, and the solutions of balance equations are not regular due to jump discontinuities.
