Classically, the Hough transform has been introduced of finding lines in an image, by visualizing the lines as points in dual space and then looking for accumulations. The idea can be extended for circles and ellipses. In this paper, the authors introduce an algebraic geometry framework that treats the general situation. Exact calculations turns out to be an obstacle, hence concepts of approximate vanishing have to be used.
