This book is about the structure of matter, that is to say, on the fundamental building blocks that constitute everything in the universe.NEWLINENEWLINEIt is divided into five chapters. In Chapter 1, a summary of classical physics is given in order to set the stage for later developments in quantum physics. Chapter 2 introduces the emergence of quantum theory from studies on radiation of heat and photoelectric effect which led to the concept of duality between waves and particles. Chapter 3 discusses how quantum theory helped us understand the structure of atoms. Chapter 4 starts with the discovery of particles like positron and muons. Then it goes on to reveal the world of other particles that were discovered experimentally in the middle of the twentieth century and then describes the concept of quarks and leptons. In Chapter 5, fundamental interactions are discussed and how these interactions might be unified. A list of books for further reading is also given in the end.
